  • Promote Respectful Engagement: Guarantee the individual’s voice is central to all interactions and decision-making processes.
  • Partner Strategically: Collaborate with the existing care network to develop and maintain communication methods that prioritize the individual’s unique personality and goals.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Strong command of American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Background in supporting individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, especially within the developmental disability community.
  • Must meet and clear all required Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) caregiver screenings, including background checks and mandated reporter status.
  • Demonstrates patience, compassion, and a keen ability to listen beyond the surface.
  • A team-oriented professional focused on achieving outcomes defined by the individual.

Benefits and Compensation:
  • Compensation: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour (allocated through the IRIS participant budget).
  • Direct Influence: See the immediate, life-enhancing impact of your work as you remove communication obstacles.
  • Mission-Focused Work: Advance your career in a setting driven by authentic, positive transformation.
  • Participant-Led Selection: Work within a model where the person receiving care (or their guardian) makes the final hiring choice, ensuring their personal needs guide the process.
